John, I have just discovered your writing on Greece my favorite place on the planet. I can go infrequently (I live in Boston) but would like to plan a trip in 2015. I have read about Spetses and am taken with it. Can you tell me what you think? I hope to find beauty and a lack of development (hotels, etc.).

Spetses, like all Argosaronic islands close to Athens (Poros, Aegina and Hydra), is quite developed with many Athenian families weekending or spending the whole of August there. Spetses is pretty, but if it’s lack of development you want, you’ll have to go to islands further out.
